Could something be on the changing in the world of Alberta politics?
Just might. With the election of Paul Hinman of Wildrose Alliance Party in Calgary Glenmore Tuesday night, something could very well be a foot.
The PC candidate Diane Colley-Urguhart came in a distant third. It was a big blow to the Stelmach PC government, since that riding has been a PC stronghold since 1971.
Recently though, Albertans have been unhappy with Stelmach government for instance, on the ballooning $7 billion deficit, the changes in the oil and gas royality formula and just a general overall the way they've been spending.
What is interesting from Tuesday night's results is that voters did not choose Liberals. They chose a truly conservative party to represent them in the legislature. That's because Albertans have been in the most part conservative and the government has been leaning more and more left all the time.
Could this be the start of a movement? Let's hope so.

Our Governor General

You know I am so proud of our Governor General. She has been serving our country very well.
I was kinda skeptical when she was first appointed by former Prime Minister Paul Martin.
At the time because she since had been working at the CBC, I thought she would just be another Liberal hack.
I must admit I was wrong. She has not been in the tank for the Libs. Since her appointment, she has fully supported our troops and the mission in Afghanistan. When in the North earlier in the spring, she was braver than I would ever be. In support of the seal hunt, she showed her support by eating a piece of raw seal heart. (I just wouldn't have had the stomach for that)
Way to go Your Excellency! I fully support you and God Bless you.

Possible Coalition?
Could there be an attempt at another coupe de ta after next election like there was almost at year ago?
Is that even a possibility? You betcha! Even Don Martin thinks so.

Liberals Better think Twice
Liberals have indicated they can no longer support the government so they will vote against them from now on. They will bring the Conservative government down at the first opportunity.
Are they going to vote against the Ways and Means motion around Sept. 14? That motion is to make the Home Reno Tax Credit into law and is very popular. Are they going to bring in non-confidence motion a fews weeks later?
Well maybe they should think twice. If the lastest poll is to be believed, the Liberals are losing ground. In the lastest Strategic Counsell poll it puts the Liberals 5 points behind the Tories nationally and in Quebec their numbers are slipping.
Even more they should pay attention to Norman Spector's lastest comments on their prospects in La Belle province. Not good!
They also released their pre-election ads. Fell flat. Will they or won't they?
This poll and the reaction to the ads better give them pause, especially if they hang their hopes on Quebec to get them back into power.
