NDP Leadership Candidates Divided on Gun Registry

Seems like the leadership hopeful's vying for the late Jack Layton's job are divided on the gun registry.

Candidates,Brian Topp,Paul Dewar, and Peggy Nash all would bring the registry back. Nathan Cullen,Nikki Ashton,Robert Chisholm, and Martin Singh all say they wouldn't bring it back.  There was no response from Romeo Saganash. Thomas Mulcair hasn't taken a position.  It looks like an urban/rural divide.

One good thing is that the registry boondoggle will soon be a foot note in history.

The government is in the process of killing the it and it will soon be gone. Third and final reading will take place at the end of the month which is next week.  It will then go to the Senate. Hopefully they can pass it before the Christmas break.

The Harper government's legislation to kill the registry is being studied by a parliamentary committee, and it is expected to return to the House of Commons at the end of the month for a final vote.
If whoever becomes the leader in the NDP and wants to revive the gun registry, go for it,  because it will be fodder in the next election. Make no bones about it.  A majority of the public is on the government's side on this one.

Section 13 in the Human Rights Act Will Finally Be Toast!

We can finally say so long to Section 13 in the Human Right Act that states you can be prosecuted for offending someone's feelings. Many have, like Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn. Back bench MP Brian Stroseth has introduced a private members bill to repeal that draconian clause which should come up for debate in the near future.

What's great is that it has support from Justice Minister Rob Nicholson and the PM so it will most likely pass.  It's a no brainier if  one believes in free speech.

Watch this from Ezra Levant of The Source. (h/t) Blazingcatfur

One would hope it would pass unamioumously.  All members should be in favor but I am not holding my breath.  All MPs of all stripes should be contacted to make sure they vote in favor of  Bill-C 304 so it can be taken care quickly  Free speech is non partisan   The sooner it's gone the better, it's long overdue.

Provincial Sales Tax, In Alberta?

This PC government has to go!  It seems everything they're doing, they screw things up even with with a new Premier and cabinet.

A little more than a month since the leadership contest has gone by and we've seen blunder after blunder. Not that there weren't any blunders before, there certainly were, there were plenty but it certainly makes you miss steady Eddy Stelmach.

From flip flopping on when to call the Ledge back to  Premier Mom,Alison Redford's seeing no need to fight for the  Keystone XL pipeline, now her Finance Minister is musing about a provincial sales tax.

Finance Minister Ron Liepert  seems to think Albertans are open to a sales tax   Liepert was a disaster as Health and Wellness Minister, it looks like he's aiming to be a disaster as Finance Minister too.

Liepert says the idea of a new provincial sales tax — long considered a politically toxic subject in Alberta — came up repeatedly during recent roundtable consultations with taxpayers.

Which Albertans was he talking to? Not this Albertan that's for sure!  And not any other Albertan I know either!  The idea of a PST is NOT a popular idea at all with Albertans so I don't know where he gets that from..

Wildrose leader, Danielle Smith points out on twitter why a PST for Alberta would be bad.

PC Sales Tax talk. This is what happens in behind-closed-door consultations with handpicked attendees. http://bit.ly/rXYcnk #wrp #ableg

Why I oppose a #PST: AB doesn't need new revenue to balance the books. It needs to stop spending so much. #wrp #ableg

Why I oppose a #PST: It hurts low income families. A $40K income family pays no income tax in AB. A 5% PST would cost them ~$2K. #wrp #ableg

Make sure you contact Danielle about how you feel about a PST for Alberta.

I'd like to hear from you though. What do you think of the Redford Tories proposal for a provincial sales tax? #wrp #ableg #pst
