Our nation was build on Christian principals. Even The Charter of Rights of Freedoms that Liberals tout all the time, begins with the preamble of the "Supremacy of God"
Ezra Levant points out the dearLiberal leader Michael Ignatieff's Christmas card is well not a Christmas card.
Michael Ignatieff’s Christmas card isn’t a Christmas card.As Ezra also points out we have many Christian symbols in the coat of arms in the provinces, our anthem etc.
It’s a “holiday” card. It has a Jewish menorah on it, which is great. Fully 1% of Canadians are Jewish and though Hanukkah was three weeks ago, it’s a nice thought.
The card has some snowflakes on it, too, and mittens and a gingerbread man (or a ghost, it’s not clear). Those are symbols of winter. Which is great, because it is winter time.
But there’s not a single Christian symbol on the card, the religion of the majority of Canadians. It’s the faith our Queen Elizabeth is officially the “defender” of, the religion that inspired the names of so many places in this country, from the St. Lawrence Seaway to St. John’s.
It is the religion whose cross adorns the coats of arms of almost every province, the religion from whose Bible comes Canada’s motto, “From sea to sea.” Our anthem asks God to keep our land, and the French version says we will “carry the cross.”Also on the Peace Tower on the Parliament Building, you have inscribed from the Psalm 72:8 in the Bible,
Even the Charter of Rights begins with the reminder that neither judges nor politicians are at the apex of Canadian society, but rather both are under the “supremacy of God.”
"He shall have dominion from sea to sea."
So see you have symbols of Christianity all around you. Our country is based on Christian principals. For Michael Ignatieff to ignore that is ignoring what our country was build on. Most Canadians identify themselves with the Christian faith. If Ignatieff is trying to win back Christian voters back from the Conservatives ignoring them will not help.
On a side not:e: I would like to take this time to wish everyone a very Merry and Blessed Christmas. As we do our shopping, baking, visiting friends and family, let us just take the time to reflect on what this time of year is really about. Jesus is really the reason for the season.
Wretched, sinful world? Only if you make it that way. Dwelling on the negative over which you have little or no influence?
ReplyDeleteA person can only affect his immediate "world" and can do much to make it non-wretched, and non-sinful.
Yes, it's Christmas season again, and we have to endure all the frustrations of those who are too politically correct to name the reason for the season, but we don't have to allow it to ruin our otherwise joyful celebrations.
The intellectual Michael Ignatieff is undoubtedly a smug atheist, and is too aware of PC and his own self-importance to bother acknowledging the beliefs of the peasants. That he sent a card with a Menorah on it is amusing and just another indicator of how out of touch with Canadians he really is.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
And when some store clerk says "happy holidays" to you, please respond with "Merry Christmas" as I do. It'll make you both feel better.
DMorris
Merry Christmas to you and yours,Lynn.
ReplyDeleteGood post! The fact is it's not just Mr Ignatieff; the world is against Christianity. Darkness will always oppose the light and truth of gospel.

ReplyDeleteSo true and so sad isn't it?
Hmm. I wonder where Ezra gets that 'fully 1% of the Cndn. pop. is Jewish' figure to mock Iggy with.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's right -- the Census: http://www40.statcan.gc.ca/l01/cst01/demo30a-eng.htm
You know, the same long-form Census he says "To Hell with":
http://ezralevant.com/2010/07/to-hell-with-the-longform-cens.html
And now, not only does he underscore his belief that wishing someone a Merry Christmas is ipso facto a declaration of Christian faith by faulting Iggy for not doing it, but he, a non-Christian, also proceeds to do it anyway.
A double hypocrite. And you salute him for this?
What's Levant even talking about, anyway, and did you bother to check his, er, 'facts' yourself? All the other media report indicated Iggy's holiday card this year just has him & his wife in front of the tour bus this summer. And, guess what, the Harpers' card doesn't say anything about Christmas on its cover, either. And, ugh, Mackay's just shows SOLDIERS in Afghanistan (w. some cheesy snowflakes): hardly a Christian sentiment (esp. since it's illegal for us to try to convery anyone there, & for them to convert to Christianity yourself).

ReplyDeleteNo surprise really. When they can't defend a position with facts, they resort to silence or attacks.
And what does the PM want Canadians to do on that most Holy of days, at one of the most important, or sometimes only, time of the year for the extended families to bond together, right at or right after dinner? Er, watch him in an exclusive year-end interview on the fawning CTV. Classy.

Actually the card that Levant criticises does have some overtly xtian symbols on it.
ReplyDeleteThe stars - four pointed wise old man style stars and the 5 pointed top of the xmas tree one.
The star is a xmas symbol.
Be wary of using Levant as a source for anything beyond the contents of his own mind.
