It's Not Just; E-Day, It's T-Day Too

This is the day we all go to the polls.  I hope you all educate and inform yourselves before you cast your ballot.

Today is also the deadline you have to file your tax return.   If you haven't done so I would advise you get on it toot sweet.  You have 'till midnight.

Have a great day and God Bless!

  1. Actually, if they owe you money (ie you're getting a refund), then Rev Can doesn't care whether or not you file. However, if you owe them, you really, REALLY need to have your return filed (either electronically or at the nearest open Canada Post outlet) before midnight. Anyone who owes but does not file is immediately subject to a penalty of 5% of taxes owed (10% if you've not filed before) plus interest on the taxes owed.

In addition, if you don't file, you don't get the GST quarterly cheques (if you're income is low enough to get same) plus other benefits with respect to children or - for seniors - the senior supplements (federal with old age security, provincial separate).

  4. I was finishing up 2009 and 2010 last night as well! Having election coverage on in the next room was definitely a distraction, but a good one overall in terms of what was happening.

My main incentive, other than to finally get over the procrastination of it all, was to get 2009 in so that we could still get payment for the Ontario Sales Tax Transition Benefit. Oh yes, and to finally get the refunds as well!

Never again will I wait on this but there various factors that caused the initial delay and then it just never got done, until the last couple of weeks.
