Glenn Beck and Common Sense

Since this blog is about fighting for common sense, I thought it would be beneficial to write about the book that has inspired me.

I have been reading and recommend highly this book by Glenn Beck,
Common Sense, The Case Against An Out-of Control Government,
Inspired by Thomas Paine, this summer.

In this book Beck emphazises how the American government is getting out of control with their spending and the gradual enchroachment of government on individuals to reduce their basic fundamental freedoms and how Americans can take their country back.

He goes at both parties, the Repulicans and the Demorcrats and their disregard for the average individual. He points out both sides have fallen down on the job and are just out for themselves.

This book is about America but as I kept reading this book, I noticed that it could apply here as well on all levels of government.

I hope you all get a chance to read it. It will inform you and inspire you. Just like Americans, we can take Canada back too.

Harper's New Patriotism

Andrew Coyne has written a great article on how the Harper Conservatives are regaining our patriotism and rebranding it's self "the Canada Party."

That's what, as far as Coyne's assessment goes, the trip to the North was about. An overall good read.

The Prime Minister, God and Politics

Others have commented on various aspects of today's Globe and Mail column about PM Harper. I will comment on a particular part that grabbed my attention.

The column talks about an interview the PM had given to a Quebec magazine. It reveals a human side of him that most of the MSM and the opposition try to distort.

The one thing that really got my attention was a quote from PM Harper and that was this.

“To be honest with you, I am a lot more concerned by God's verdict regarding my life than the one of historians,” the Prime Minister said with a laugh, according to the article.

It caught my eye because no. 1, he is a born again Evangelical Christian.
No. 2 obviously he because he's a Christian, God is an important part of his life. Since God is such an important part of his life, his decisions, his words, his actions, his must conduct his life according to the will of God. He knows that someday he like all of us must answer for what we have done with our lives.

He obviously cares not what people think of him so much but ultimately what God thinks.

I especially picked up on that because I too am a Christian and God is an important part of my life as well.

It to, is clear that his faith has an influence in the way he conducts his politics. You can tell. I'm sure he must seek the wisdom of God when he has to make the tough decisions. Like recently, our economy. Clearly you can see we are so much better off than many other countries in the world. God's hand has to be in it. God I believe, has been guiding this PM through out this whole economic meltdown.

So no matter what the MSM, the oppostition or anyone for that matter thinks of him, God will be will the ultimate judge.

That my friends is THE most important thing. If you at the end of the day have done what is right in the eyes of God, it doesn't matter a hill of beans how others judge you, it's temporal. How God judges you, that is eternal!

I for one am proud of this Prime Minister and for what he stands for. I want nothing else but all of God's blessings upon him and his beautiful family.

Liberals Get Tough on Crime

So apparently the federal Liberals suddenly want to cooperate with the Conservative government to get tough on white collar crime.

Good, first if they're really serious, maybe they should get tough on themselves. Adscam hasn't been totally solved yet. Let's go after that $40 million dollars that you stole from us, shall we Liberals? Set a good example.

BTW, what happened to all the, bring down the government, election bluster? They want to work with the government now? We shall see.

I sure hope they're sincere. Who knows? They're Liberals after all. Seems like they don't know what they're doing half the time.

Co-operate if necessary, not necessarily co-operate

Alberta Advantage, What Happened?

Yesterday Alberta Finance Minister, Iris Evans gave the latest update on the state of the province's fiscal situation. She gave us some grim news. The deficit is going to be larger than anticipated, $2.2 billion more than they had forcasted in the spring.

They're going to have to tap into the $17-billion sustainability fund to help off set this deficit that they helped to create.

So, what happened to the Alberta Advantage? How did we get from there to where we are today?

When Ralph Klein came in as Premier in the early nineties, we were in debt and deficit. That was due to the mismanagement of his predecessor. He was able to take measures to get us out that mess. It was a sacrifice for all of us at the time. He sucessfully was able to finally get rid of that albatross that was stifling our progress and move ahead.

We then were able to post budget surpluses even large ones over the years. That was at $10 a barrell oil to boot. Spending then took over. Big spending.

It did not stop when Premier Ed Stelmach took over. Infact he started to spend even more.
Ed brought in a new royality frame work (so we could get our fair share) It stifled our oil and gas industry so much that in fact he drove some of them out of the province and into B.C and Saskatchewan.

$2 billion is being spent on carbon capture and storage. What for? It's not going to make a shred of difference. It's all about image. You see we supposedly have a bad reputation in the world as far as our oil/tar sands. According to some we have "dirty oil." This money is a total waste. That would save $2 billion right now. Alas, they are going ahead with it anyway even though we cannot afford it.

Now we find ourselves in quite a predicament.

In Ms. Evan's presser yesterday she blamed it on the price of oil and the recession. Not once did she on behalf of the province take any responsiblity. She never once admitted that they had mismanaged things.

So now we're in this mess, it's up to us, Alberta. We need to hold their feet to fire and demand better.

With all her rhetoric, her inability to recognise the sickness of mismanagement in the government she is a part of, some might attempt to label her as "Virus Evans." I will not. I have too much respect for the office she holds to label her in such a manner.

Cuban Dictator Defends US President against Right Wingers

Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro has come out in defense of what he calls right wingers fighting President Obama because he's black." He says Obama inherited his problems from his predessor President Bush, and is trying to fix things and it's the right wing racists as he calls them are trying to block him.

It's very telling when a Communist Dictator comes to the defense of a US president when in the past relations between the US and Cuba have not been good.
President Obama wants to open up ties with Cuba. I don't know if that's good or bad but you have this dictator speaking positively about Obama, I think it says alot. Remember when Castro and Pierre Trudeau were good friends, Trudeau was in the midst of implementing a bunch of social programs. NEP,a wealth transfer program that was a biggy especially for us out in the west here. It tanked our economy in Alberta. It still sticks in our craw.

Just look at what Obama has done in the first months of his presidency. He's spent the country almost into the poor house, wants to bring in socialized medicine, and cap and trade. Look at those who surround him like all the czars he's appointed, over thirty of them, in which they are not accountable to congress, the senate or anyone for that matter. One is self-confessed communist.

He has his thugs attend the townhalls, trying to intimate these so called "right wing racists." These are ordinary people, republicans, independants even democrats that attend thses meetings. They come to raise their concerns over a healthcare bill that the politicians have not even bothered reading, like other bills they have not read but pushed through anyway.

No wonder the Cuban Dictator likes the current resident of the White House. Trying to implement socialist, wealth transfer programs, intimitating the public trying to exercise their democratic right of free speech. Those tactics, I'm sure Fidel, is proud of.

What have Libs gotten into?

Do some Liberals wish that the "anointed one" was not anointed? Do they now wish they would have had an actual, real leadership race? You know where the actual grassroot members vote for who they want to lead them. But then again that Liberals for ya.

Doesn't seem like much common sense here, eh?

Liberals Want an Election

Liberals want to force an election down our throats this fall. But why?
Could it be that for them it's about the lust for power and the chance to get their fingers on our money again? It's all about them, not the country.

We just had an election not even a year ago. We've had so many elections in the past five years, it almost makes it an annual event. But at the cost of 300 million dollars each time? For what kind of results in the end? According to most polls lately the results would be more or less the same, so what's the point? That money could be well better spent.

What pressing issue is it worth going to the polls for? The only pressing issue at least for Liberal leader Micheal Ignatieff, is EI reform. 36o hours eligibility. Give me a break. That's pretty a pretty weak issue to force an election over when our unemployment rate has held steady at 8.6% for the last two months GM and Chrysler just announced they'll be calling back some of their layed off workers soon. The government has promised EI reform this fall. So that issue kinda falls flat.

The economy according to more and more economists and experts is that we have bottomed out now and are going to start to recover shortly.

Another good reason that the Liberals shouldn't force an election on us is that they are just not ready. L.Ian MacDonald in his column today explains why. One reason is that Michael Ignateiff's summer has been a dud. He says "They don't have a program or a strong ground game, they don't have a message, and their leader Michael Ignatieff doesn't have a narrative"

So Liberals don't force another election on us. We are voter fatigued. No wonder the turn out is gradually getting lower with each passing election. Too many of them in such a short period.
Anyway the country is hummin' along quite nicely right now when you compare it to other countries especially the US with Obama and the Democrats in charge.

We are better off under the leadership of PM Harper and his goverment right now. They've been steady at the wheel during these trubulent times. Let's stay the course. Now, does that not make sense?

You be the judge!

Compassion, For Who?

We all know by now the Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi has been released from jail on compassionate grounds to go back home to his family in Libya to die.

What about the victims families? Where's the compassion been shown to them? Did the Scottish authorities forget about them? They are angry and outraged. They should be. Their family and friends can't come home to them. Their loved ones were taken from them by this criminal.

So why should he be released? Why can't he just die in jail? If it's on compassionate grounds, why not release all prisoners? Surely they find something to grant all inmates mercy.

Watch this video of Wolf Blitzer from CNN interviewing the Scottish Justice Secretary. Notice how Wolf asks him the same question over and over again and he doesn't answer it.

Just another example of liberal forgetting the victim and hugging the criminal.

Now does that make sense? I think not!

Common Sense

You know what I've noticed in the last few years? Yup, it's getting harder and harder to find good old fashioned common sense.

Reminds me of "Where's Waldo" Where's good old fashioned common sense?

Common sense seems to be a thing of the past these days. It's really hard to find out there. You read the newspapers, listen to the radio, watch television. It just doesn't seem be there anymore. Even in our educational institutions is difficult to find. I give my head a shake once in awhile and think what happened. Why is it so hard to come by?

Common sense is something that in my parents and grandparents day was just that, common. It was easy to find.

What is common sense you ask?
According to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary, Common sense is defined as:
sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts

What I find it seems to be a little more prevalent in conservative circles even then it can be sparse at times. Try and find common sense in liberal circles, well that's another story. Almost as rare as hen's teeth. I give my head a shake once in awhile and wonder what happened. Why is it so hard to come by?
.
Let's make it common again I know from reading a few conservative blogs that there is smidgen of sense out there.

Conservatives we can make a difference, let's make common sense common again.

In future posts I will attempt to illustrate where the common sense is lacking in the news of the day, politics and other issues.
