Farewell John Baird

I was just as shocked as many others were to hear that the now former Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird was going to announce he was stepping aside from politics.   He has been one of my favorites along with the late former Finance Minister Jim Flaherty in PM Harper's cabinet.  He was the best Foreign Ministers in my lifetime.  For those who missed it or would like to see again John Baird's great farewell speech.

Thank you for your service to Canada John Baird, you did a great job and you will be missed! God's speed in whatever you decide to do next in your life!

  3. I think that it's as simple as, after 20 years of public service, he has decided to start making some real money while he is in his prime. Can't really blame him for wanting to normalize his life and use his experience and talents to secure his future.

    1. I agree with you. With all the good he has done in public life, he can carry that over to the private sector, make some money and a name for himself in that area. I have a feeling though we haven't seen the last of him in the public sphere, I believe he will be back and run for leadership of the CPC when PM Harper decides to retire.

  4. The manner in which Baird did this, apparently with no heads-up for Harper at all, is very odd. There must be more to the story.

    1. Perhaps. We should wish him well regardless of the reason.
