Gilles Revives the Coalition Talk

Just a little more than a month before the federal budget is scheduled to come down,  Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe has resurrected the idea of the coalition.
(Ottawa) A few weeks of possible federal election, the Bloc Quebecois revives the idea of supporting "a coalition of political parties" - presumably made up of Liberals and NDP - to dislodge the Conservatives of Stephen Harper.
Now we need to know where Jack and the Iffy Waffle stand.  They need to make it clear before Canadians go to the polls.  It will be the coalition of the losers or a Conservative majority. PM Harper has made that clear. This latest just plays into the Conservative party's narrative they will use the in the next election whether it be this spring or fall 2012.

With the last couple of polls in the last few days that have come out from Ekos and Ipsos, it certainly doesn't look that positive for the coalition so they need to be careful.  That's if these polls are accurate and indicates a trend.  I would caution though to take these polls with a grain of salt. None the less this latest from the Bloc partner will make it more difficult for the coalition partners and their media cheerleaders play down the coalition of losers.

Now that Gilles has spoken, it's time for Jack and Iffy to put up or shut up.

  1. Duceppe threw a hand grenade under the coalition chair when he demanded $5 billion dollars for Quebec. Both Layton & Ignatieff would be seen as caving to Quebec and handing the PM's chair to Duceppe. If Duceppe backs off for the sake of a Coalition then what is he being given in the backrooms that we do not know about. If he can submit for the coalition then why can't he cooperate with the elected government?

  2. This should be the theme of a new Conservative ad. The Bloc has proposed it and now the Conservatives should be openly asking the Liberals and NDP if they support it.

Of course they won't mention it. They want to keep it hush hush until it's suddenly foisted upon us.

  6. Anonymous, "Duceppe threw a hand grenade under the coalition chair

    ....also at the MSM. Why?

Since the liberals are entitled to take billions from us while their media stood by; Duceppe and Layton are entitled as well to do and take as they please while the media watches since all three have signed an agreement to form a coalition.
"what's yours is mine now" sort of thing.

No national media would dare contradict Duceppe because......

  7. O/T,

    Today Feb 15th, 2011
On Power Play: Don Martin’s interview with Kevin Page PBO that the deficit is expected to be less than 40Billion dollars, What is that going to do for the LPC,s talking points.

Great news eh? Below 40billion? Wow!
Don't be surprised that you hear nothing of this on National teleision-why? because, the public is 'not to know anything.'

  8. Duceppe sure isn't helping the media, "Liberal", NDP sales job mantra of, "there is no coalition". Duceppes, separatist approval ratings and his positive polling numbers within the Province of Quebec has, perhaps clouded his vision and left him unaware of the negative reaction to a coalition of Socialists, Communists and Separatists within the ROC. The media will be busy kicking Bev Oda to the ground for the next while, so Duceppe's coalition musings and electoral strategies will be dutifully ignored.

  10. Let's all be clear on the legitimacy of coalition in Canada. The reason a coalition was illegitimate last time is that the partners had promised during the election not to form one. After this election the possibility of a coalition will have been raised by the Conservatives and now the Block. If they Liberals and NDP don't explicitly deny participation then they will have implicitly given notice. Next election, the Governor General will not deny a coalition request.

  11. Duceppe wants the Conservatives to win a majority government in the next election. This will help the PQ win the provincial election in 2013, and would be easier to campaign against in a future Quebec referendum in 2014 or 2015.
